A Close Encounter

Thank you to hellokitty (A lovely AC fan and reader of this blog), for emailing me in regards to a funny moment she recently picked up while watching the film.
In this scene Strang and Anne move to the side to allow for the passing of a man on the staircase. If you look very closely you can see that Strang's hair comes in close contact with a candle above- it seems as though Strang is quite oblivious to the candle as we see his head come closer and closer to it until he appears to get quite shock (presumably at the heat of the candle) and quickly turns around to see what it was.

Be sure to take a closer look at this when you next watch the film!

What do you think- is this great acting or is Matthew Rhys really unaware of his proximity to the candle?

Have you come across anything funny or unusual while watching the film? Or would you like to share your thoughts about the film? You are most welcome to leave a comment below (you can even remain Anonymous if you like) or email me at tristans_isolde@hotmail.com

Dashing boy?

One of my favourite scenes in the whole movie is the scene in which Byrne comes up with "Dashing Boy" as the name of the 'pretend' horse he has running in the plate. I just love watching Byrne and Strang in this scene. Byrne is so funny, as if he doesn't realise how stupid he sounds and Strang's reaction to the name Dashing Boy. I imagine that Strang is thinking- "Seriously, couldn't you think of anything better than Dashing Boy" :)

Anyway, just in case you don't own the film or haven't seen it in a while. Here is my, rather poorly scripted, version.

Anne:
"Do you have a horse running today, Mr Byrne?"
Byrne:
"Yes I have indeed, a fine gelding! Perhaps you would like to see him" (turns to Strang) "Strang! Why don't you show Miss Anne Dashing Boy" (smiling he turns back to Anne)
Strang:

(turns to Byrne and in somewhat of a quizzical tone) "Dashing Boy" (?)

Byrne:
"Yes, right! Dashing Boy" (nods head and smiles)
Strang:
"Right" (in a slightly sarcastic voice) "Dashing Boy?" (smiles and turns to Anne) "Miss"

An Update; Polls etc

I'm sorry I have been bombarding you all with posts of late, so just a quick update on the results so far:

Anne: 100% (2 Votes)
Strang: 0% (0 Votes)

Who will win?

Also just quickly, as I have a test tomorrow- which I should continue studying for :) I have some exciting news...which I will share with you sometime tomorrow after my test, but if you are a fan of reading novels you may want to check back here later :)

Have a wonderful day/night, wherever you may be.

Much Love,

A Tie! New 2-day poll to reveal winner

Firstly, a huge 'Thank you' to those who voted, particularly those who jumped aboard today during the last 5 hours. 6 votes in total, that is awesome! Well here are the long awaited results:
Catherine: 16% (1 Vote)
Anne: 33% (2 Votes)
Byrne: 16% (1 Vote)
Strang: 33% (2 Votes)

Unfortunatley it was a tie between Anne and Strang, and what I have in mind for the winner wont work unless there is just one winner :(  therefore I am going to run a two-day only poll between Anne and Strang :)

So you have two days to get your votes in and vote for the your favourite Abduction Club character for 2011. If you didn't vote before perhaps now is the time, if you did vote before- please vote again :)

Much Love,

Character Profile; Strang

Name: James Strang

Age: Early 20's

Known for: Being predictable, speaking Italian, tolerably handsome and funny
Played by: Matthew Rhys

Character Overiew:

Alike Byrne, Strang is also a younger son and will inherit nothing. Not much is known about his background but the nature of his friendship with Byrne suggests they have been friends for a long time. Strang assists Byrne during his abduction however he screws it up when he takes a fancy for Catherines younger sister, Miss Anne Kennedy and abducts her too. Strang falls quickly in love with Anne and despite Anne loving him too, finds it difficult to secure her as Mr Power, her betrothed is hot on his heels.

"I pity those who have not looked upon your face."

"I pity those who have not looked upon your face. How barren their dreams must be."
This quote is most likely the most memorable one from the film. It is spoken in Italian by Strang to Anne, who is oblivious to its real meaning. Strang states in the film that it is an "Old Italian proverb" however despite multiple searches I haven't been able to find if it is indeed a "real" proverb. Whether or not it is, it is a lovely scene and one of the few scenes you are able to see Strang's serious and romantic sides.
